Arsenal aiming for FC Porto midfielder to replace Ramsey

Aaron Ramsey appears to have finally sealed his new destination for next season, while the Gunners have identified a potential replacement for the outgoing star.

Arsenal are in the hunt to nab Porto midfielder Hector Herrera on a free transfer in the summer, according to Tuttomercato.

The midfielder is yet to agree new terms with the Portuguese club, with Atletico Madrid, Roma and Wolves also said to be interested in his services.

But whilst the Mexican is a real talent, it might be difficult for him to force his way into Wolves’ starting XI.

Nuno currently has Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho to call upon in the middle of the park, as well as Romain Saiss and Leander Dendoncker.

Herrera is an accomplished passer of the football, and is wonderfully cool and composed when in possession, but his attributes are very much similar to both Neves’s and Moutinho’s.

It could be argued that Wolves should really be strengthening in other areas of the pitch.

In any way Unai Emery’s new-look side have exceeded expectations in the Premier League, where they sit only three points off the Champions League places.

But the Spaniard knows he needs a long-term replacement for the departing Aaron Ramsey.

He also has defensive problems with Rob Holding out long-term and Laurent Koscielny struggling for fitness.

With this in mind – and to aid that Champions League push – Arsenal will dip into the market this window.

Despite reports he is on the way to Milan,Hector Herrera is still on Arsenal’s radar.

The Mexican international, 28, has been with Porto since 2013 and has played 149 times for the Portuguese champion.A box-to-box player is blessed with energy and is available on a free transfer this summer.

Also on the spot to arsenal is Denis Suarez.

Having coached the Spaniard at Sevilla, the Barcelona man is seen as a player who could help improve the current Gunners squad.

With funds limited, Arsenal want to sign Suarez on loan but reports suggest Ernesto Valverde is only willing to let him leave on a permanent basis.

Who will be coming in to the Emirates over the next three weeks?
