President Kenyatta noted that he does see any problem bringing heads together for the sake of the achievement of national goals.

Uhuru further dismissed claims that he has ignored Mt Kenya in his development agenda.

Mr Kenyatta said on Monday that those who “think development should go to the people where a leader comes from” should be ashamed of themselves.

However members of parliament from Mt Kenya are opposed to the handshake with claims that it is a plot to sideline deputy president William Ruto in the coming elections.

Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri has been the latest legislature to warn that the head of State’s close association with Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga will cause his followers to abandon him.

The MP spoke days after moses Kuria launched an attack on the head of state claiming that the Jubilee administration had neglected the Mt Kenya region in matters of development.

Kimani Ngunjiri claimed Mr Odinga wants to ruin the good relationship the President and DP Ruto have had since 2013, when they first vied for the top offices.

“What we know is that the deputy president has stood with us. It is important for residents to see the two principals working together like they did before. We are not opposed to his handshake with Mr Odinga but to seeing him push Dr Ruto away.”

The legislator further noted that the peace enjoyed in the Rift Valley resulted from the good working relationship between the two leaders so any form of betrayal will likely change the status quo.

Mr Kenyatta said on Monday that those who “think development should go to the people where a leader comes from” should be ashamed of themselves.

The president termed such people washenzi (fools) in his address during the launch of the Sh460 million Mama Ngina waterfront project in Mombasa.

“We will go from Mombasa to Kisumu, Moyale to Namanga … to ensure every Kenyan enjoys the fruits to development … that is our focus,” he added.
