Friday marks four years since the mysterious death of Raila Odinga’s first born son Fidel Odinga.

Fidel, a budding businessman and a promising politician died in his father’s hand at his Karen residence on the morning of 4th January 2015. The cause of his death has never been revealed to the public.

But as the family celebrates his fourth anniversary, Kenyans still remain with unanswered questions. One of them being, was Raila Odinga’s son a gangster?

Detectives investigating the high profile death  stumbled on a cache of firearms and ammunition in his Karen residence. The cops retrieved three rifles, a pistol, and about 2,000 bullets at the Bel Air Country Homes residence in the upmarket Karen suburb.

The firearms and ammo were found in a safe alongside a bulletproof jacket and were legally owned by Fidel, a licensed firearms certificates holder. But still why would one single person own more bullets than a police station? What was he protecting himself from? During his burial, friends said Fidel would have been a soldier if he had not been an Odinga.

Does this explain his love for guns? Were they just toys that he had the privilege of owning, as a prince? The police took away the firearms and ammo for safekeeping as investigations continued.

Of course, these are questions without answers! All in all, Fidel was a son, a husband and a brother. His family posted a lovely message on his anniversary.

“Although we were blessed with years with you, our time together will never be enough. For you were someone special who was thought so highly of and we will always remember you with affection, warmth and love.” Reads Part of a message posted on Mama Ida Odinga’s Twitter handle.
