Why is a smart Driving licence so expensive? What makes it so expensive? Does it mean Kenya is not ready for the digital migration?
These are some of the questions that Kenyans are asking online over the worth of the Digital Driving License saying that it is too expensive.
The smart DL costs 3050 Kenyan shillings valid for 3 years.
Some have claimed that just like the other system this one too, is a fraud and a number of Kenyans have opted to stick to the old booklets for being in disagreement with the charges.
The new digital driving licences resembles an ATM card and carries among other things,a driver’s full profile and traffic offences if any.
The National Transport and Safety Authority(NTSA) launched smart driving licenses in a bid to curb traffic offences and pull out rogue drivers from the Kenyan roads without legitimate licenses.
The new driving licenses are also fitted with electronic chips that contain key details of a driver.
Quoting the Bizna reports, The new generation e-driving licence is loaded with points that get deducted every time a motorist commits a traffic offence. Any licence that is emptied of points is ultimately withdrawn from use.
Kenyans might seemingly agree with this initiative but maybe the price part of it is what bothers them.
More complaints over the long ques that people have to wait on.. but interesting that already a number of Kenyans have been issued with the smart DLs while others are still complaining.
What are your thoughts on the cost of smart DL?
