The maternity centers in area around Taita Taveta will soon be blossoming with many pregnant women ready to give birth. This after the area residents received a call by the leaders to give more birth to salvage their county from being scrapped.
Taita Taveta county is among the counties with the lowest number of population in the country. The numbers are almost below the standard threshold.
To salvage the county leaders are urging the local to at least help increase their numbers. Wundanyi MP Mwashako to be specific leading the call, saying couples should at least add one child to their families.
According to IEBC recommendations the county could go down due to its low population and forced to be part of an already existing county neighboring Taita Taveta.
Mwashako said most women close the chapter of giving birth early. “I am not saying children should be born anyhow, but I think it’s time we allow ourselves to get babies up to the age of 49 years,” he said.
Taveta MP Naomi Shaaban said she will support efforts to ferry natives back to the county to be counted during the census.
