Contraction company charged with soil theft

Foreigner who was accused with theft has been charged ,Zhang Shaowei, manager of China International Cooperation Company Limited, was charged with soil theft in a Kisii court after he appeared before resident magistrate Stephen Onjoro.

He was accused of stealing the soil in Wanjare, Kisii County between July 6, 2018, to August 20, 2018, in a parcel of Land registered to Enock Onchangwa.

The accused was also charged with unlawful damage of Onchangwa’s property and making two false lease agreements for the land in question.

Shaowei’s lawyer Richard Machage, however, defended his client claiming that the charges were false since the lease agreements were genuine.

He claimed that the allegations were a ploy to extort his client since Shaowei had already paid Onchangwa Ksh 880,000 as part of their agreements.

“The charges my client is facing are false. The complainant is about to extort him considering that he had already paid him Ksh 880,000 as agreed,” Machage told the court.

While appealing for bail, Machage went on to point out that Shaowei had been very cooperative during the investigations.

“My client has been very cooperative since the incident happened three months ago. Police themselves gave him a cash bail of sh 100,000.

Shaowei was released on a cash bail of Ksh 100,000.

He is expected to appear in court on January 14, 2019, for the next mention.
