A close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday said the Kikuyu community does not have an MoU with anyone regarding the 2022 elections.
Jubilee vice chairman David Murathe made the remarks in Vihiga during the 39th Maragoli cultural celebrations held at Municipal Grounds, Mbale, in a move that could antagonise Deputy President William Ruto who is hoping for support from President Uhuru Kenyatta when he retires in 2022.
Mr Murathe said Mr Kenyatta and Mr Ruto had already led the government for two terms and should both retire after serving as President and Deputy President respectively.
“If he (William Ruto) has an MoU with Uhuru Kenyatta, then that was an agreement between two individuals,” said Mr Murathe.
He added: “If you (Ruto) have led with Uhuru for two terms, what else do you want. We don’t know someone who will guard us but we know someone who will break us. We will take someone who will safeguard Mt Kenya.”
And now Kenyans have had there say on the comments:
David Murathe is correct on one thing though. President @UKenyatta shared the government almost equally with his DP. It was in fact way beyond 50-50 if the whole point was to tie at ‘ethnic mix’ and ‘patronage’, unlike Raila’s “National Accord” sharing, which was merely on paper.

David Murathe is a simple minded ethnic chauvinist who believes that only Kikuyu elites should have a say on who becomes the President of Kenya. Kenyans will not tolerate such a talk. He can take that to the bank. Time for dynasties and ethnic dominance is gone.

David Murathe is the Jubilee Party Vice Chairman. He says DP William Ruto shouldn’t be talking on behalf of the party. But who is Murathe talking on belhalf of? Or is this his personal opinion? pic.twitter.com/FNO4IazRZu
