Man excessively drinks himself to death on Christmas

Christmas celebrations turned into mourning after a 55-year-old man died after an alleged excessive consumption of alcohol at Rambugu village in Rarieda.

The deceased, Onyango Yongo is reported to have been consuming traditional brew including chang’aa at his brother’s home who is said to have prepared it for a Christmas party.

According to one of the neighbours, James Odire, the deceased, in the company of two other men drank until they lost consciousness.

Odire narrated how the deceased started to look overwhelmed and then started vomiting.

They were rushed to the nearby Rambugu health center where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The other two were however treated and discharged.

The nurse in-charge at Rambugu health center,Lucy Owiyo, confirmed the death saying that it could have been as a result of alcohol intoxication.

The body was moved to Bondo sub-county hospital mortuary.

Alcohol interferes with the brain’s communication pathways, and can affect the way the brain looks and works. These disruptions can change mood and behavior, and make it harder to think clearly and move with coordination.

It is also reported that drinking a lot on a single occasion slows your body’s ability to ward off infections – even up to 24 hours after getting drunk.

Drinking too much on a single occasion or over time can in addition take a serious toll on your health.
