REAL MADRID have confirmed director Angel Aguado has died after 62 years at the club. Aguado was one of president Florentino Perez’s key allies in the halls of the Bernabeu.
In a statement, Real said: “Real Madrid CF and its president, Florentino Pérez, deeply regret the death of Ángel Luis Heras Aguado, member of the Board of Directors of our club, and show their condolences to their family and friends. “Ángel Luis Heras was always part of the Boards of Directors chaired by Florentino Pérez and from the first moment he was especially committed to the Real Madrid Foundation, of which he was an employer. “A passionate partner of Real Madrid for 62 years, he dedicated his whole life to his club and to promote and spread his values.
“During the time in which Ángel Luis Heras has been a member of the Board of Directors of Real Madrid, our club has won 40 titles, including five football European Cups and two basketball European Cups. “Until the last moment he has been an example of commitment, dedication and loyalty to Real Madrid. With his work and dedication during all these years, Ángel Luis Heras has contributed to the transformation and modernisation of the club with the aim of continuing to be a leader and a benchmark in world sport. “His death is a great loss for Real Madrid and for all Madrid.”
Real play Al Ain in the Club World Cup final today and the club are likely to commemorate Aguado before the match. Real are seeking to win the Club World Cup for a fourth time. The beat Kashima Antlers 3-1 in their semi-final on Wednesday, with Gareth Bale scoring a hat-trick. Real are the overwhelming favourites to beat UAE side Al Ain, who edged River Plate 5-4 on penalties in their semi-final.
