Arsenal boss speaks to the unhappy players

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has confessed he spoke with few of the Arsenal players, including Egypt’s Mohamed Elneny, over the lack of playing time.

Elneny was left on the sidelines in Arsenal’s 0-2 home defeat against Tottenham on Wednesday, which led to their exit from the English Football League Cup with the Spurs resuming their path to the quarter-final.

The 26-year-old midfielder has struggled to gain playing time so far this season as he only featured in six games for the Gunners and none of his appearances were in the Premier League.

Besides Elneny, Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has been omitted from the squad facing Spurs, with Emery justifying his decision as a technical one.

“Every player wants to play and be okay to help the team when we need. The frustration is the same for everybody when they didn’t play in a match,” Emery said in the pre-Burnley encounter press conference.

“But I spoke with every player. With Mesut, with Jenkinson, with Mo [Elneny], with Petr Cech, with Auba. With every player. Sometimes individual, sometimes with the group.”
