Do not argue with the Governor! Sonko orders for the demolition of Mike Maina’s hotel

After Thursday’s heated exchange between businessman Mike Maina and Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, Maina woke up to the rude shock of finding his Marble Hotel earmarked for demolition by the Nairobi County.

In a notice served by the county to the hotel management, they have been given 14 days starting December 21 to stop further illegal occupation and development of the property. The management has further been asked to provide the county with development approvals to city hall for verification including occupation certificate.

This will surely be seen as the Nairobi Governor flexing his muscles to silence the man who spent the better part of Thursday condemning Sonko for the demolitions that occurred in Kayole a day earlier. Maina argued that the tussle for the 20 acre piece of land is a matter that has been in court for 10 years.

Governor Sonko responded by taking down the public toilets just opposite the hotel which are also owned by Maina. The governor accuses Maina of using fake documents to claim ownership of the 20-acre land in Kayole. But Maina defended himself saying that the matter has been in court for almost ten years and has been trying to find a solution to the dragging matter.
