YouTube star Michael Korte is back with ‘Queens Sing King’, an empowering medley of songs from Broadway’s Lion King sung by 9 inspiring female voices.
The video features vocalists Lisa Oduor-Noah, Trenyce, Jada Somiah , Shaylin, Jada Arnell, Jeniffer Criss, Bryce Charles, Lencia Kebede and Dottie. The most exciting thing about the Lion King medley is that it features one Kenyan, Lisa Oduor-Noah.
Lisa is described as a young, silky-voiced artist with a lot of soul who recently graduated from the Berklee School of Music in Boston after she got a full scholarship to study in the prestigious music school four years ago. Lisa came back to the country earlier this month and has already performed in shows like Men of Soul and recent Back to the 90’s concert, The Heng.
While not a usual medley, the video features a choir of nine women singing mash-up of songs from the Disney classic, The Lion King.
The video starts with the group ladies rocking African print in the middle of a rocky desert powerfully singing the opening song from the musical, “He Lives in You.” It then dives into different songs as all of the ladies take turns with a solo.
Speaking to Billboard, the creator and producer of the soulful medley, Korte said that the goal of the production was to showcase unity, sisterhood and strength.
“It was imperative to showcase the African culture that the show is rooted in, but present it in a way that was current and relatable,” he added.
The video was produced by Korte, filmed by Baxter Stapleton and arranged by Bryson Camper.
