After an absolutely stonking summer, Liverpool have been fairly coy as to any new arrivals that could turn up at Anfield once the January transfer window opens.

With Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino not meeting the high expectations he set himself last year, despite Liverpool soaring in the EPL, there has been suggestion that the club and manager Jurgen Klopp could reignite their interest in one of the hottest properties on the continent.

Back even before the summer kicked off royally, the German RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner expressed interest in making the switch to the English top tier, after former teammate Naby Keita finally made the move to Merseyside after an extended stay with Die Roten Bullen.

“Yes, playing in the Premier League is a dream for me,”he told FourFourTwo (liverpoolfc.com) back in June.

“But probably not in the next few years – later, when my English is a little bit better! I’m very comfortable at RB Leipzig, though.”

“To become a world-class player, I’ll probably have to play in an even better team at club level.

“I want to be honest, Naby Keita hasn’t become world class with us either, he may now be at Liverpool.” (Welt)

Exciting stuff to hear from a truly sizzling talent if you’re a Red fan determined to be considered one of Europe’s elite once again, as well as carving out a stellar reputation thanks to an unbeaten start to the new Premier League campaign.

However, in his most recent comments to Sky Sports Germany (via Goal), Werner hinted at a desire to make a far shorter journey for his next preferred club;

“I’ve had a nice two-and-a-half years at Leipzig, so they are in the picture [for next season],”

“There are other clubs in the picture. If you play in Germany and want to stay in Germany, there is only one club in question.”

This domestic season however he’s bagged 10 in 16, already just three off what he managed in the entirety of last season.

Under new manager Ralf Rangnick, RB Leipzig currently sit in fourth and well within the mix to earn a Champions League stage approaching the midpoint of the 2018/19 campaign.

Bayern Munich are lying in third.
