Why Sossion’s teachers strike is more than atomic bomb on schools’ calendar

The celebration during this festive season will definitely be filled with every happy moment. But will these moments be extended to the new year?

Definitely not. Just like Lukaku donkey strikes the powerful Kenya Teachers Union through their boss have announced a national wide strike.

As much as the notice as per now may look like just a mere threat trust me Wilson Sossion means business. He never minces his words just like CS Fred Matiang’i. Whatever he stands for must just be approved. He is among the hard headed fellows right now in Kenya.

This means that the new year school calendar will be affected. In the early start of the year most government officials will still be enjoying their holidays. So such an early mess will destabilize everything.

As a matter of fact , Kenyan government is always slow to react to corruption cases. The strike can last to even the entire January each side holding their pride and heads up.

This will mostly the School Calendar for the entire year.

Do you think the employer will jump in to listen to Knut’s demands?

Mr Sossion, in a televised press conference, accused the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) of “de-professionalising the teaching profession”.

He cited TSC’s failure to promote teachers as one of the four reasons for the strike notice addressed to Labour Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani.

TSC, he said, had refused to move teachers up the the job-grade ladder based on merit, qualifications, long service and exceptional performance in their work.

Mr Sossion said Knut was also angered by TSC CEO Nancy Macharia’s decision to transfer more than 3,000 head-teachers “irregularly”.

“The transfers, Knut can authoritatively reveal, were effected without the approval of the TSC appointment board,” he claimed.
