‘Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Appointment Is A ‘SHAMBLES’’

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was appointed as Jose Mourinho’s successor on a temporary basis earlier today. Mourinho was relieved of his duties as United chief on Tuesday morning, less than two days after his former side suffered a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool.

Solskajer will be in charge of the Red Devils until the end of the season, alongside former United assistant manager Mike Phelan.

The quick appointment of a caretaker has pleased many United fans and former players.

Savage isn’t one of them and believes the appointment has shown how far the club have fallen in recent years.

“I think for Manchester United now to be appointing an interim manager is a shambles,” he said during an appearance on BBC Radio 5 Live. “It is. Let’s get it right.

“Manchester United appointing an interim manager, somebody who could still be in a job at Molde, I don’t think the season starts until March, five wins from 30 at Cardiff.

“Yes, he might have scored the winning goal in the Champions League final, but is this where, really, Manchester United are at. Has he got the respect of the players?”

Savage respects Solskjaer’s achievements as a player but believes his hiring shows how little ambition United have.

“Listen, he’s a legend at Manchester United,” he added. “Fletch (points to Darren Fletcher) played with him and he scored the winning goal and the fans still sing his name. But really?

“The biggest club in the world of football are going to appoint an interim manager who is currently managing Molde who are not playing until March and he’s going to take charge?

“They’ve still got PSG, by the way, in the Champions League.

“Are they just going to write because they just give to a legend of the football club? It’s a shambles.”

United’s first match under Solksjaer will be a trip to relegation-threatened Cardiff City, whom the Norwegian managed in the 2013-14 season.
