The government of Kenya has allocates 225 Million to end water shortage in Turkana.
The county has frequently been faced with water shortage which has been a cycle for the longest time.
Leaders have been working towards finding a solution for this water crisis that will serve the residents for a longer period and allow them to access clean water.
Water being an essential need, the government has made this a priority and allocated funds for the construction of a dam in a small town in Turkana, Loiyangalani .
Loiyangalani is a small town located on the southeastern coast of Lake Turkana in Kenya.
The town has 1000 inhabitants. Loiyangalani means “a place of many trees” in the native Samburu tongue.

Last year, water crisis hit the county leading to drying up of the only permanent river in Turkana.
The residents say that water levels usually go down mostly during dry seasons of December and January but when it rains, the water flows in normally.
With a population of approximately 46 million, 41 percent of Kenyans rely on water sources such as ponds, shallow wells and rivers, a challenge especially in rural areas.
Only nine out of 55 public water service providers in Kenya provide a continuous water supply.
How best can the government deal with the water shortage problems in the rural areas?
