Two reasons Man Utd cannot sack Mourinho, while some players want he leave?

Manchester United have no intention of sacking Jose Mourinho in the wake of their fifth Premier League defeat of the season at Liverpool. United’s 3-1 defeat at Anfield left them 19 points behind leaders Liverpool and being 11 points off the top four after just 17 matches.

Mourinho’s predecessors David Moyes and Louis van Gaal were only sacked when it became impossible for United to secure Champions League qualification. However, Mourinho insists he is confident they can still get a top-four finish.

Moreover, Manchester United will reportedly have to pay £24m if they want to sack Mourinho before the end of the January transfer window. As a result, Manchester United would consider it carefully before making this decision as there is too much money.

However, the performance of a team is not only related to the team’s tactics, but also players’ performance. In an interview, Manchester United legend Paul Ince has questioned the attitude of Mourinho’s players and reckons they want him out of Old Trafford. “People are right to question the manager, but you must also look at the players too,” said Ince. “Are they really putting a shift in? Do they really care?”

On the basis of his own playing career, Ince thinks the team’s players could want their manager out by starting forming cliques. Also, he thinks there are many Manchester United players who aren’t fit to wear the red shirt, particularly criticizing Jesse Lingard for using social media to promote his own clothes brand. He said: “You don’t need to make your own clothing brand as though you are one of the best stars in the world. He needs to remember who he is.”
