Revealed! The real reason why Manchester United are yet to sack Jose Mourinho

The beleaguered boss continues to cling onto his job

Manchester United officially hit a nadir in the egregious 3-1 defeat to Liverpool as they slumped to their worst ever start to a Premier League season.

Man Utd have meekly registered only 26 points from 17 matches. That’s an eye-popping 19 points adrift of leaders Liverpool, leaving them an alarming 11 points outside of the top-four. They’ve scraped a meagre seven wins, and leaked in a deeply concerning 29 goals.

That’s the sorry state of the club in the Not-So-Special-One’s infamous third season at the helm.

Not even the much-chastised duo of former bosses David Moyes and Louis van Gaal endured such a wretched start to a top-flight campaign.

So, how on earth is Mourinho still in a job?

Well, as it turns out, it would cost a gargantuan amount to terminate his contract at Old Trafford.

The Portuguese’s current deal expires at the end of the 2019/20 season – he penned an extension back in January – with an option for a further year.

Therefore, if United opted to fire Mourinho and hire a new gaffer before the end of the January transfer window, the Daily Record reports that it would cost the club a reported £24million!

Wow.

The publication also states that Mourinho’s compensation package would drop by 25% if he failed to lead United into next season’s Champions League.

Should he survive unscathed in the next few weeks, it looks like the only realistic chance he has of leading United into the 2019/20 Champions League is winning the competition this time around. But with French giants PSG up next, few would back the Red Devils to conjure up a last-16 upset.
