Klopp got his Champions League wish...

Liverpool gaffer Jurgen Klopp has had his say on the Champions League draw and also given a few words of sympathy for sacked Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho. The Reds will face Bayern Munich over two legs in 2019 as they look to make it through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Klopp was visibly excited about the draw as he gets to once again tries to get the better of Bayern Munich a feat he spent years trying to do during his time at Borussia Dortmund. In fact, his former club in the Bundesliga were one of the teams he was desperate to avoid in the knockout stages of the Champions League as he said:

“There were only 2 clubs I didn’t fancy really – Dortmund and Juventus. It’s nice for our supporters. Cool. It’s a massive club and a big challenge for us.”

He was also far from keen from facing Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus side as they seem like one of the top teams in the competition this season. Luckily for Klopp, he got his way as Liverpool travel to Germany to try to get past Bayern Munich, a winnable game for both sides.

On Jose Mourinho’s sacking Jurgen Klopp was as respectful as ever of his past achievements and trophies. He did not comment on whether it was right or not to sack the Portuguese manager but he did say:

“He’s a very competitive, ambitious guy. Unbelievably successful. I can imagine the last few months were not a joy for him. Nobody can take away all the things he won.”
