Sad!!County Speaker,hit with stray bullet fired by police officer

Somber mood has hit Trans Nzoia County  after four residents were shot died and scores suffered injuries after the police officers shot at protesters.

County Assembly Speaker Joshua Warunga was among the protesters sustained bullet injuries as he rushed to quell a violent exchange between police officers and residents of Kolongolo village.

He was rushed to Mt Elgon Hospital in Kitale on Sunday evening where he is currently nursing wounds.

According to the Eyewitnesses reports claimed that the angry mob was protesting the manhandling of a suspect who had been accused of domestic violence.

The police opened fire indiscriminately when the frustrated residents attempted to confront them.

This came at a time when the uniformed officers are on the spot over the extrajudicial killing of suspects.

According to a study by Amnesty International, many Kenyans live in fear of unlawful police killings and harassment.

The report states that one out of 10 Kenyans has experienced a rights violation at some point in their lives.

In November, 22 women claiming to have lost their sons or husbands, sued the Attorney-General and the Inspector-General of Police for the government’s failure to investigate the use of force by police.

The cases involve males between the ages of 15 and 35 and, in some instances, even younger, allegedly killed by the police between 2014 and 2017.
