Following their 3-1 defeat to bitter rivals Liverpool, Manchester United utility player Ashley Young has lauded the fantastic support of the fans but noted the disappointment in conceding two late goals.
Manchester United have been in wretched form, suffering back to back defeats while only winning one game in the last five in all competitions. Sadio Mane opened the scoring for Liverpool while Jesse Lingard restored parity for United just after the half-hour mark.
Two late goals by substitute Xherdan Shaqiri sealed the win for Liverpool, their first against United in over four years.
Speaking to MUTV after the defeat, Young praised the fans for their support but noted that the disappointment in conceding two late goals, “They’re fantastic and they have been all season. It’s disappointing for them as well as for us. We’ve got to try and take the positives out of the game and be ready for the next one.
“It’s disappointing. I don’t think there’s a lot more we can say. Obviously, two deflections, but there were times when we’d got back into it at 1-1 where I felt we could have gone on and won the game but it wasn’t meant to be.
“Of course it’s always disappointing to concede. I think we were containing them. There was a lot of pressure in the second half, which we expected. I didn’t think they were going to score and then obviously the two deflected goals — it deflated us and they go on to win the game.”
