Manchester United can not hope to have it any worse in the defence with manager Jose Mourinho being forced to field defenders playing through the pain barrier as the Red Devils endure an injury crisis at the back. Now one of those defenders is reportedly eyeing an exit from Old Trafford in January following a rift between him and Mourinho.
According to reports, United captain Antonio Valencia is open to leaving Old Trafford in the January transfer window, with the right-back reportedly accepting the fact that he has no chance of winning back Mourinho’s trust. Valencia and his agent discussed the 33-year-old’s options in a meeting in Manchester this week and it’s understood that West Ham as well as clubs from Spain are interested in the Ecuadorian.
At the moment, Valencia is United’s longest serving player in the squad. The Red Devils veteran has made 337 appearances since he joined from Wigan in 2009. But the full-back is unhappy with the way he’s been treated in recent times and speculation has also highlighted that the rift between Valencia and Mourinho has left the two barely on speaking terms. The fact that United’s manager is not close to the club’s captain further reinforces the idea that the Manchester club are in turmoil right now.
Will it be the right decision?
