Good news for Arsenal… Unai confirms new defender is coming

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has confirmed the club is making plans to add extra defensive cover during the January transfer window after strings of injuries and suspensions.

The north London side suffered a massive blow with news Rob Holding will miss the rest of the season after an injury he sustained during Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Manchester United. Captain Laurent Koscielny has also been on the sidelines but will make his first senior appearance on Thursday night against Qarabag having recovered.

The club has been linked with moves for the likes of Chelsea’s Gary Cahill and AFC Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake. The former PSG boss has confirmed that he could recall Calum Chambers from his loan spell at Fulham.

“If we can take one player to help us at centre-back, I think it’s a good option. A transfer is not easy and the possibility with Calum is maybe one option, but I don’t know if we can do that,” said Emery.

Arsenal’s January transfer has already been boosted after the club chiefs confirmed transfer funds will be available if the squad needs further additions in January
