In Kenya, the month of December has always been punctuated by road accidents. Last year was the worst Bloody festive season in recent memory, where more than 200 people perished on the roads in the month of December.

The most greasily accident happened on the night of 31st December, where 36 people perished at the notorious Salgaa blackspot.

2018 has had its own fair share of road carnages with the Fort Ternan carnage that claimed the lives of more than 50 people fresh in the minds of Kenyans.

Most of us thought that the re-introduction of the famed Michuki Traffic Rules will save us from early graves. But as things are, December is already living to its billing.

At least seven people died and several others were injured on Tuesday afternoon after a matatu collided with a truck at Mlango Tatu area on the Eldoret – Nakuru highway.

Confirming the 2:30p.m incident, Rift Valley Traffic Commander Ziro Arome said the accident occurred when the driver of the truck headed to Nakuru from Eldoret was attempting to overtake other vehicles on the road.

Mr. Arome added that the truck then came into a head-on collision with the matatu whose driver has been identified as Joseph Kiraitu Githaiga. “Due to the impact of the accident, both drivers died instantly and five other passengers were seriously injured,” he said.

The survivors were taken to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret. Whatever happens next, we hope it will not be as worse as 2017.
