Kenya’s New currency designed to end struggle of the ‘visually impaired’

With the new currency, Kenya is set to benefit greatly from it. The design of the currency is set to end the struggle of the visually impaired.

It has been revealed that the new Kenyan currency; coins is not just a facial make over but also has mind blowing features that tag along with the beauty.

The office of the State House has mentioned that the new coins have features which make them more accessible to the visually impaired.

A brilliant aspect to put into consideration. The minority in most cases seems to be forgotten but this time, the government in terms of planning in unison with the Central Bank of Kenya has proved to be concerned by all groups of people.

The President who today presided over the launch of the new coinage commended the CBK for considering public aspirations and ideas in the production of the new generation coins, which are compliant with the Constitution.

In developed countries, they have improved systems and apps that aid the visually impaired to distinguish the denomination of currency.

One year ago, nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura asked the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) to ensure the currency in circulation can be easily used by visually impaired people.

Mwaura lamented that the current currency makes it very difficult for blind people to distinguish one denomination from another.

“As Kenya plans to introduce a new generation currency, the government should devise a way to help the visually impaired tell apart different money denominations. They have been suffering in silence but time is ripe to end their agony,” the Senator said.

Special interest groups are mostly left out in several instances and this move by CBK is pretty impressive.

The new coins, which are now legal tender, were issued today via a gazette notice, and have significant aspects of our nation which will serve as a means of preserving our culture and passing relevant knowledge.
