There is a saying in Western Kenya that lightning can be used for witchcraft. Well there is no backing evidence to support these claims, but how can you explain an incident where four people are killed in one weekend from lightning.
20 year old Allan Mbote died instantly when he was struck down during a football match in Luchululo village, Funyula Constituency on Sunday.
The incident happened during a football match. Mbote, a defender by trade, was celebrating his team’s equalizer against arch-rivals when he was struck down by lightning.
A football match in Luchululo village in Nangina ward, Funyula Constituency turned tragic on Sunday after lightning struck to death one player and left at least six others injured.
While confirming the incident, Funyula OCPD Mary Kiarie said three players are recuperating at Nangina Mission Hospital under close examination while three others have been treated and discharged.
βThe unfortunate incident happened when they were playing football in one of the tournaments organised by area MCA John Obwogo. One player identified as Allan Mbote died on the spot while three others were rushed to Nangina Hospital,β she said in a phone interview.
But a more shocking incident happened a day earlier at Kakapel Village in the neighboring Teso North Constituency where lightning killed three members if one family and injured three others.
Can lightning really be used for witchcraft?
