The Star Newspaper has been before accused of publishing false information that sometimes tarnishes the names of political leaders. Siaya County Senator and Senate Minority Leader, James Orengo is the recent victim of such and he is now mad at the Star Newspaper for an article that was published in today’s paper.

The piece titled “Uhuru Visit Triggers Orengo-Raila Rivalry” details how President Uhuru Kenyatta’s visit to Kisumu has rekindled a battle for political control of the Lake region between the legislator and ODM party leader Raila Odinga.

The Siaya Senator took to Twitter to blast the Newspaper for their unfounded claims.

“This is utter nonsense and a planted story to create a narrative that can only find traction in feeble and gullible minds. I know the source and how it was crafted and fed to selected purveyors of lies and evil designs,” said Orengo.

According to the Star, Orengo has demanded that President Kenyatta compensates the victims of the 2017 post election violence ahead of his visit. The editor of the publication further implied that Orengo was secretly against the March 9 handshake between Kenyatta and Odinga.

However, Orengo has denied the claims made by the daily saying, “It looks like someone is creating a story, a narrative and then they ask me a question. When did I say that? Where? I have not been to any meeting. Yesterday I was not anywhere. I was not at any meeting yesterday the whole day,” he is quoted by the daily.

The lawyer also denied making any public statements, maintaining that the last public address he made was on the floor of the House on Thursday.

Sources within the ODM party told The Star Newspaper that the Siaya Senator has been working round the clock to sabotage the handshake after being left out. There are claims that Orengo had mobilized a team of ODM MPs to shoot down the VAT bill in September but his plan flopped.
