While African presidents are struggling to attract followers on Instagram, the report from Burson Cohn & Wolfe (BCW) showed that Instagram has become the social media platforms with most interractions.
“This third instalment of the BCW study shows Instagram has become the social media network where world leaders garner the most interactions,” said Chad Latz, Chief Innovation Officer, BCW.
The study analysed the activity of the 426 Instagram accounts of heads of state and government and foreign ministers using aggregate data from Facebook’s CrowdTangle tool. It further revealed that Instagram is more popular with the youth compared to Twitter and Facebook which is preferred by professionals.
This perhaps explain the low number of people following African leaders on the platform preferred by millenials.
Globally, India’s Prime Minister Narandara Modi topped the list with 14,810,584 followers, on Instagram followed closely by Indonesian President Joko Dodo who has over 12,258,141 followers.
The third and fourth positions went to American president Donald Trump and Pope Francis with 10,088,028 and 5,731,224 followers respectively.
