The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has sent out a stern warning to drivers who own vehicles operating illegally.
This comes after they noted the existence and use of unregistered vehicles. Earlier last week, I came across a video doing rounds online of a quire plate number and Kenyans had raised concern.
According to NTSA, vehicles bear plates inscribed as X-GK, X-KA, X-Diplomat etc. The Authority also noted an influx of vehicles bearing foreign number plates.
NTSA in a statement clarified that vehicles bearing numbers like X-GK are not registered and are therefore operating illegally.
“Operating a vehicle which is not dully registered is an offence as it violates the provisions of section 6(1 A) of Traffic Act Cap.403, Laws of Kenya. Owners of these vehicles should ensure that they are dully registered before they are used on the road.” reads statement in part
The also advised owners of foreign registered vehicles currently operating in the country to ensure that they have all the necessary documentations allowing the vehicles into the Country.
NTSA added that the police will be enforcing the law on all vehicles found to be operating without due registration or vehicles bearing foreign registration found to be in country without necessary documents.
The issue of unregistered vehicles is partly what causes insecurity and makes it difficult to trace criminals who use such cars for illegal activities.
With this announcement by NTSA, there is hope that vehicles will get legit registration and therefore comply by the law.
