The Next Battlefront Between Raila Odinga & William Ruto Revealed

Raila Odinga Vs William Ruto, Who will win this political duel? Well, these two have seen it all. Once close political friends, the two are now engaged in a war of words and a battle for supremacy as the race for the 2022 general take shape just over a year after the last general elections.

Ruto see’s himself as President Uhuru’s direct heir while Raila Odinga and his team think otherwise. Ruto has been considered by many factions as the front-runner to the highly coveted Presidency Seat while Raila is seen as man out to jeopardize Ruto’s bid.

All this has been attributed to the March 9th handshake that has seen Raila Odinga become even more close to Raila Odinga with many feeling that Ruto is slowly being sidelined.

Raila Odinga and Uhuru agreed to the formation of a team that will help come up with proposals to help chat a clear political path for the country. The team has been collecting views from various stakeholders in the country and Kenyans in general.

Raila Odinga’s Party, ODM has also given out it’s proposals for consideration by the team that might end up being adopted if they are taken into consideration and subjected to a referendum.

Raila Odinga and ODM want the President’s term slashed to a single seven-year term.

ODM is also proposing the reduction of the number of Members of Parliament by half.

The proposals that would trigger a referendum are likely to be the next battlefront between ODM leader Raila Odinga and his political nemesis, Deputy President William Ruto.

Raila’s party also proposes a parliamentary system of government and a three-tier government structure with 14 regional blocs.

The opposition outfit also wants the Directorate of Criminal Investigations delinked from the command of the national police and made a constitutional agency.

It wants the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission abolished.

In sweeping changes, the Orange Party proposes drastically slashing the size of the bicameral Parliament from 416 to 208 lawmakers. It wants the Senate empowered as the Upper House. Nominated seats would be abolished in both houses.

The head of state would be barred from seeking reelection

According to ODM, MPs will have the powers to elect the President who will then appoint the Prime Minister.

“This will remove focus on the presidency that has become the trophy of ethnic competition,” the internal document reads.
