Your Form Won’t Matter, Liverpool Star Tells Everton

Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson has insisted that Everton’s recent form will not matter heading into the Merseyside derby, as the game is one where the form goes out of the window.

Jurgen Klopp’s men return to action in the Premier League on Sunday when they host rivals Everton at Anfield in the first Merseyside derby of the season.

The Reds will be aiming to conjure a strong reaction after their disappointing defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League meeting in midweek at the Parc des Princes.

However, they are expected to have their work cut-out against a resurgent Everton side that are slowly finding their best form under new manager Marco Silva.

The Toffees have claimed 16 points from a possible 21 in the Premier League in recent weeks and climbed to sixth in the table following their win against Cardiff City last Saturday.

Despite Everton’s stellar run of form in recent weeks, Robertson insisted it will not matter too much heading into the derby, as it is a one-off game where emotions kick the form out of the window.

Robertson also added that Silva, who he worked with during their time at Hull City, has transformed the way Everton play their football and admitted the results are now finally showing.

“I’ve worked with the manager closely for five or six months and it’s very different to the style of play they maybe played last season and previous Everton teams have played”, Robertson told the club’s official website.

“I think he’s really started, especially in the last six or seven weeks, to implement that on the pitch and you’ve started to see the way he’s wanting them to play.

“It looks like they’ve all bought into it, but we know they’re maybe a different team to the ones we faced last season and it’ll be a tougher game.

“But their form and our form goes out the window.

“It’s a one-off game, a derby game, and it’s all about who controls their emotions and takes their chances at the right time.”

Everton have failed to win a league game at Anfield for almost two decades since their triumph in 1999.
