Flying Squad officers have arrested an officer from the department for stealing a vehicle from the unit’s yard in 2017. The detectives caught up with their rogue counterpart Elias Shikuku at Pokot South where he was attached.
Shikuku is accused of changing the number plates of the Toyota Land Cruiser and selling it.

An investigation was launched after authorities found out the vehicle was missing from their yard.
Communications from DCI stated that the car was later recovered in Mombasa bearing a different registration number. “The suspect who is a former member of the Flying Squad Unit is currently in lawful custody awaiting arraignment in court,” read the statement from the DCI.

This happened in the backdrop of an incident where a DCI officer shot dead a colleague after a heated argument about a police vehicle. The officer was coming from conducting an operation in Mombasa when his counterpart asked to use the vehicle.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has put police officers on notice for engaging in unlawful activities. He also condemned police officers who colluded with the Firearms licensing Board (FLB) to issue fake firearms certificates to civilians.
