The Lion King breaks record! Now Disney’s most watched trailer in a day

If you’ve watched the Disney teaser for “The Lion King” remake that was released yesterday then you’re part of millions of people around the world who broke YouTube with the views.

“The Lion King” journeys to the African savanna where a future king must overcome betrayal and tragedy to assume his rightful place on Pride Rock.

 

 

The one minute and 33 seconds teaser trailer has now broken the Disney record as it was viewed 224.6 million times within its first 24 hours, becoming Disney’s most watched trailer in a day.

Across all studios, it’s the second most watched teaser, behind that of “Avengers: Infinity War,” which tallied 238 million views.

The new film directed by Jon Favreau is a remake of the 1994 animated classic. Lion King the movie is familiar to anyone who has seen the original as it shows Simba (voiced by Donald Glover) being presented to his future kingdom as Mufasa (James Earl Jones) once again informs him that “everything the light touches is our kingdom.”

The first teaser trailer for Disney’s live-action remake of The Lion King was aired during NFL’s traditional Thanksgiving primetime game in the US.

The film has huge names attached to it including; Donald Glover who will play Simba, Beyonce who plays his love interest Nala and Chiwetel Ejiofor who plays the one we all hate, uncle Scar. Other standouts in the ensemble include: Alfre Woodard (Sarabi), John Oliver (Zazu), Seth Rogen (Pumbaa) and Keegan-Michael Key (Kamari).

 

Clearly, the world cannot wait to watch the The Lion King which is set to hit theaters on July 19, 2019.
