The search continues; three more suspects arrested in connection to Italian woman abduction

It’s been five days since the 23-year old Italian woman, Silvia Constanca Romano was abducted from her house by suspected Al-Shaabab at Chakama trading center in Malindi, Kilifi County.

The Italian woman was among the volunteers who are working with Africa Milele Onlus, a non-governmental organisation in Fano town Italy, whose mission is to receive, support and educate orphan children who are marginalized by society.

According to witness reports, 80 heavily armed men attacked the village in Galana Kulalu on Tuesday night at around 8pm and started shooting in the air.

Sources indicate that by the time police were deployed, the gunmen has already crossed River Galana with the lady who could be heard calling for help.

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet now says that police have arrested three more suspects over the abduction of the Italian social worker bringing the number of those detained to twenty. A multi-agency team has also been tasked with trying to find the whereabouts of Ms. Romano.

Police have also appealed to members of the public to move with speed and report to the nearest Police Officer or Police Station should they see the criminals with the abducted lady adding that they would not spare any effort in tracking down the criminals and rescue the victim.

“Neither the reasons for the attack nor the identity of the attackers have been established. Meanwhile, we appeal to members of the public in the area to report promptly to the nearest Police Officer or Police Station should they sight the criminals with the abducted lady,” police said.

According to IG Boinnet, the gang that was armed with AK 47 rifles attacked Chakama Trading Centre and shot indiscriminately at residents including children during the incident.

Among those injured during the attack are identified as Samini Garama Dadu (23yrs), Ibrahim Said (16yrs), Elias Mwaringa Kathua (12yrs), Mohamed Kalume Konde (10yrs), Mang Katana Jeffa (20yrs).

The three children: Ibrahim, Elias and Mohamed, sustained gunshot wounds on the left knee, left thigh and left eye respectively but have been reported to be in a stable condition.
