‘Mourinho survived a Coup d’état after upturn in form’

Maybe he works well under pressure or it was just out of luck .Manchester United believe that Jose Mourinho has avoided a player revolt at Old Trafford after an improvement in recent results.

Despite their 3-1 loss to Manchester City before the international break, there have been several positive results over the last couple of months, with comeback wins over Newcastle, Bournemouth and Juventus, as well as a handy draw against Chelsea.

The Evening Standard claims that United’s ‘players have proved their commitment to the cause’ after a shaky run of results earlier in the season.

Mourinho’s position has come under question at times this season with a period before the win against Newcastle where the only outcome appeared to be his sacking.

However, the Red Devils won the match and now ‘there is the belief he can still salvage the situation’ at United.

The club’s hierarchy believe that Mourinho can turn the club’s fortunes around with a top-four finish still understood to be the minimum aim for this campaign.

During a turbulent period earlier in the season, Mourinho reportedly fell out with a number of players in the squad, including Paul Pogba.

United currently find themselves seven points off fourth-placed Tottenham and it will take a huge effort between now and the end of the season to claw that back.
