Mourinho on out-of-context quotes: ‘I don’t play your game’

Jose Mourinho has suggested quotes attributed to him about the immaturity of four of his Manchester United players were taken out of context.

The United boss gave an interview to Spanish broadcaster Univision during which he discussed the potential of Luke Shaw, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard while bemoaning the character and ‘entourages’ that come with modern day players.

The initial quotes appear to have been poorly translated, and Sport Witness have provided a more accurate summary of what the Portuguese said.

When he was asked about those comments ahead of the clash with Crystal Palace on Saturday, Mourinho refused to respond other than to suggest his words had been twisted.

“I don’t play your game. I don’t play the game of the take out of context and do what you want.

“I don’t play your game and I have nothing to say I don’t lose my time. Next question this side please.”

Mourinho’s position has come under question at times this season with a period before the win against Newcastle where the only outcome appeared to be his sacking.

However, the Red Devils won the match and now ‘there is the belief he can still salvage the situation’ at United.

The club’s hierarchy believe that Mourinho can turn the club’s fortunes around with a top-four finish still understood to be the minimum aim for this campaign.
