Matiang’i puts rogue traffic police officers on notice

Rogue police officers are now on the spot after the Ministry of Internal Security and Coordination CS; Fred Matiang’i issued a notice to warn them over extorting money from Kenyans.

Matiang’i ordered  that Kenyans should not let that happen and should report any cases and complaints through the anonymous reporting information  system app which was launched recently.

Matiang’i emphasized that they want to clean the police force and get rid of the police officers who will be found culpable of corrupt dealings.

He also urged Kenyans to report their complaints directly to the number issued so that action may be taken. A section of Kenyans had began to feel like the police are above the law. Matiangi’s remarks has turned the tables and police will now get a taste of their own medicine if found on the wrong side of the law.

“Take pictures anonymously and send them to us so that we can read the numbers for ourselves or police officers who are receiving bribes or doing monkey business.

We too want to clean up even in the police force so that we get rid of those who are not serving the people the way they are supposed to do.

When you tell me police officers are taking bribes.. from who? from you..you are giving them bribe. Give us the names,

we have given you the number; tell us who are extorting the money from you” He said

Online sources reveal that the system is under the Internal Affairs Unit, which was recently moved from Jogoo house to KCB Towers as per recommendations of the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA).

Under the system, Kenyans can send a toll-free message on 40683 or call 0800721230 after which they will be provided with a tracking code for their complaints.

One can also download the Anonymous Reporting Information System application on their Android phones.

What do you think about the reporting system app? Do you think it will stop the police from taking bribes?
