How the Hand Shake Has Been A Hot Bed of Corruption

Has the Handshake become a breeding ground for corruption? Well, Amani National Congress Party Leader Musalia Mudavadi thinks so.

According to the former Vice President, the handshake has been mistaken as a licence to steal public funds.

Mudavadi feels that despite the peace and tranquility that has been brought by the handshake, corruption has gained more prominence with the opposition party NASA comprised of ODM, ANC and FORD Kenya, now sleeping on it’s job.

The ANC Leader says that the opposition has failed in it’s oversight role and that it no longer points out the rot in the society.

Speaking in Mombasa, Mudavadi said corruption has become rampant in the National Assembly to an extent that reports are being doctored.

He cited the debates on contraband sugar and illegal maize imports whose outcomes were marred with bribery allegations.

“Parliament has gone to bed with the Executive and abandoned its sacred function of keeping the government in check. Parliament reports are either altered or diluted and mutilated to protect partisan interests and not those of the public,” Mudavadi said.

Mudavadi’s sentiments have been echoed by a number of Kenyans who actually feel that corruption and rot in government has increased ever since the now famous handshake.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga is on record putting corrupt government officers on notice. Mr Odinga said that he will side with President Uhuru Kenyatta in denying refuge to those found culpable.

Raila said  that he is departing from usual politics, where those accused cite tribe or political party to evade justice.

In Statement by his spokesperson, Mr Dennis Onyango, Mr Odinga assured the country that the war on corruption has his full backing, as agreed with President Kenyatta.

“In line with his (Mr Odinga) agreement with the President, he will deny refuge to those accused of corruption, and who try to hide behind parties and communities when they are accused,” said Mr Onyango, referring to the famous handshake in March.

In the past, some of the biggest corruptions perpetuated by the government or by the people in the government have been unearthed and the perpetrators exposed by the opposition. The Anglo- Leasing Scandal, The Goldenberg Scandal, and the more recent Eurobond Scandal have all been brought to the public eye by the opposition.

Do you think that the Opposition is sleeping on it’s job?
