How good is your Football club while ranked via Twitter?

Some followers of English clubs, as any user of Twitter will tell you, can be very vocal indeed about their opinions on the platform – but just where do each tribe rank with regard to levels of activity online?

New data released by Depor Finanzas has ranked the level of interactions which major football clubs receive from their followers and there are a few interesting conclusions.

Taking the month of October as an example, they’ve analysed the total interactions (likes, RTs etc.) for Europe’s top twenty clubs and, more significantly, their total interactions as a percentage of their total followers.

By that metric, a sort of pound-for-pound ranking, the Italian side Roma’s English language account stands out with a quite staggering 316%. This surely serves as an example of the power of the platform for brand-building to clubs.

That account is well-known for their speed of response to sporting trends, as well as jumping on broader topics and having a sharp sense of humour.

Their striker Edin Dzeko recently did an ‘Ask Me Anything’ session on the Reddit, which was promoted on their Twitter feed, another example of their canny ability to connect fans with the club.

As for England’s top clubs, it’s Arsenal that rank highest by that same metric, with the Gunners account earning an impressive 29.4% on the interactions/total fans ratio, with Liverpool coming next at 24.8% and Chelsea back down at 18.6%.

Manchester City’s Amazon Prime documentary All or Nothing will surely have set a new bar for accessibility to clubs and players for fans and, if following along that path consistently in the coming years, the Citizens will surely see themselves climb up the fan interaction rankings sooner rather than later.

They don’t make an appearance at the top of the tree this time around, though, while their neighbours Manchester United are down at the 17.7% marker.
