The difference between ODM’s new office and their previous orange house

The country’s biggest Opposition party first announced its intention to relocate its headquarters from the famous Orange House in June 2018 while refuting claims it was being kicked out of Orange House where it had its National Secretariat.

Orange has decided its time for new beginnings and one of its  resolves is to acquire own property building for the party and stop renting house services for their wide affairs like the formerly were.

The party’s Executive Director, Oduor Ong’wen, claimed the property was set to be transformed into a multi-storey office block and that was why ODM was moving out.

“We have agreed not to renew the lease. This is due to the intention of the landlord to construct a multi- storey office block on the property in line with the current trends of land use in the neighborhood,” Ong’wen revealed.

The ODM party has been using Orange House headquarters in Nairobi’s Kilimani Estate since 2006 and it has remained party’s headquarters through three elections.

The Orange Democratic Party (ODM) has acquired new headquarters that is valued at Ksh 180 million.

According to a senior party official, plans were underway to start renovating the new headquarters in readiness for the relocation.

“Everything is going on as planned, and from this week we will start painting the building with our orange colour and have any other thing fixed. We are also shopping for new items like furniture and cabinets for the new offices,” he said.

Relocating from the iconic Orange House located on Menelik Road in Kilimani, Nairobi, the party’s new head office is located in Lavington, a move that is said to be ODM’s rebranding strategy ahead of 2022 general election.

According to reports, the opposition party is said to have made a down payment of more than Ksh 20 million and is expected to pay at least 60 per cent of the total cost before moving in by December 31.
