Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk is the latest player to be drawn into the simmering feud between his team-mate Dejan Lovren and Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos.
Lovren mocked Ramos after Croatia’s win over Spain in the UEFA Nations League on Thursday and now Van Dijk has dived in by describing the Real Madrid captain as “not my type of defender.”
“He is a great player and I respect what he has achieved but he is not the best, he is not my type of central defender,” he told De Telegraaf
The Liverpool defender adding that “Ramos’ team-mate at Real Madrid, Raphael Varane, is my favorite. He is an excellent defender and has already won a lot.”
Lovren’s dispute with Ramos goes back to the Champions League final in May when the Madrid defender’s challenge on Mohamed Salah forced the Liverpool attacker out in tears.
