How Cabinet Secretaries Helped Seal Exam Leakage Loopholes

Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed says that there were no leakages in this year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams and pointed out that the results are a pure reflection of hard work.

Speaking while releasing the examination results on Monday, Amina attributed this to the involvement by most government agencies in the exercise.

“None of the 9 KCPE papers was leaked. Several CSs went around the country to ensure that the exams are done in a credible way. I am proud that we have stumped out dishonesty.” Amina said while releasing the results at Star of the Sea Primary School in Mombasa.

“The KCPE 2018 marked the 3rd year the Ministry launched a concrete/ deliberate measures to end the culture of cheating. We have kept on learning and improving our systems to seal all possible loopholes to ensure that we are not exploited by cheating cartels.” she added.

She said that some of these measures have completely wiped out cases where examinations were leaked.

She stated that the ministry has done a cost-benefit analysis and concluded that the cost of administering National Examinations was far much lower compared to the shame, ridicule, indignity and joblessness that children whose results are canceled go through.

The top candidates in this year’s exams scored 453 marks. Amina said that there were two candidates who emerged tops. The mark is slightly lower than the 455 marks that Goldalyn Kakuya scored in last year’s exams.

More than 12,000 candidates were above the 400 mark, which is a slight improvement from the 9,000 candidates that had the same mark last year. More than 50% of candidates scored above 250 marks.

President Uhuru Kenyatta announced yesterday that, all candidates will be enrolled for form 1 next year. They will start receiving admission letters as early as before Christmas.
