The handshake between Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has evoked various reactions on social media. However, one activist Okiya Omtatah has taken his opinion to the Court unlike the rest of us who only make noise on social media.

Omtatah has this morning sought the court’s interpretation on the meaning of Odinga and Waiguru handshake when Kenya’s funds are still missing in the Nation Youth Service (NYS) agency. The activist now blames Waiguru for jeopardizing the hard stance against him thereby making investigations into matter hectic.

Okiya also blamed Odinga for lowering his stance on the NYS scandal matter in which Waiguru is a major suspect. He has accused the former Prime Minister of not being with the law and promised to battle out with him in court.

Yesterday Waiguru announced that she had withdrawn her defamation case against the AU High Representative for Infrastructure, Raila Odinga saying that her decision to drop the case was based on the spirit of cohesion and reconciliation in the country. On the other hand, Mr. Odinga said that they had agreed to “let by-gones be by-gones” and left the matter of the NYS scandal in the hands of investigators.

The handshake between the two came as a shock to Kenyans after Raila Odinga in 2015 demanded Waiguru’s prosecution for graft scandal at NYS that involved disappearance of Ksh. 791 million. He had also sought the court demanding for Waiguru to be subjected to a lifestyle audit

The then Cabinet Secretary for Devolution, Anne Waiguru filed a defamation lawsuit against Mr. Odinga accusing him of dragging and recklessly tarnishing her name into the scandal.

According to Raila, the two did not only bury the hatchet but also reviewed the status of devolution in the country and agreed to frequently exchange views on how to address the challenges. Waiguru also said that Mr. Odinga confirmed and affirmed his support for devolution going forward.

Do you think that the handshake between the two politicians will jeopardize the ongoing NYS scandal case?
