Bungoma people have been hitting headlines with the things they do. Do you remember Saleh Wanjala, a man who hanged on the chopper that had ferried the body of the late business man Jacob Juma?

As if that was not enough, a 42 year old Kennedy Makokha from Misanga, Bukembe West Ward of Bungoma County is set to hit another high in his passion for football by cycling to Rwanda in support for Bungoma County staff football team.

This is not the first time he is hitting the road on a bicycle! Makokha, first hit the headlines when he announced his plans of cycling to Lodwar to cheer Bukembe High School football team, a challenge he beat to the dismay of many.

Bungoma County staff football team garnered second position in the Kenya Inter County Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) games that took place in August this year in Kisii County and is set to proceed to Rwanda to participate in the East African Local Authority Sports and Cultural Association (EALASCA) games.

Makokha a father of four, explained his passion in football as one that goes way back to his days in Primary and Secondary school.

“I did not just become a football fanatic out of the blues; I used to play football with celebrities like the late Ken Simiyu, Mark Sirengo and Sam Babu at KCC football team with Rashid Shed as the Coach,” recalled Makokha.

Makokha went on to add that he takes this trips not for anything else but to support his favourite teams.

Speaking to Makokha at the County Department of Gender, Culture, Youth and Sports offices, County Director of Culture and Arts Mrs. Alice Wafula acknowledged his sacrifice and determination towards supporting the local teams and pledged County government support for all talents that may be showcased by any resident.

Makokha called on the County Government to assist him acquire necessary documents to travel across Kenya-Uganda and into Rwanda. He also asked for security as he will be cycling both night and day using the same bike, which he fondly named after his grandmother Nasimiyu, that he used for the Lodwar trip.

Makokha also called upon well wishers to support him with food and drinks to last him the journey and make him realise his dream to cheer the Bungoma Team in Rwanda. But now my thought is that Makokha could have asked for alternative means of transport that could get him to Rwanda fast, but since he loves his bicycle very much, he is only demanding food and security.
