Andre Green’s season is finally back on track after injury – and the Aston Villa youngster celebrated with a goal against Tottenham Hotspur.

Before the game the youngster had made just two appearances for Pompey after his summer switch, due to an operation to remove a cyst in his knee.

He marked his comeback for the club with his first goal against Spurs U21s in the Checkatrade Trophy.

He couldn’t conceal his delight after the game which Pompey went on to win 3-2.

He told the club’s official website, “It’s been a bit stop-start for me so far, so I was happy to be back out on the pitch again. Now I’m looking to build my fitness.”

“This is a winning side, so it’s good to be a part of that. The boys are flying and hopefully that will continue.

“I’m happy with my goal and want that to be just the start. I’m looking for a few more now and we’ll have to see where it takes me.

“My ambition is to repay the manager’s faith in me by scoring goals and helping this team to win more matches.

“The knee’s fine and there’s nothing holding me back – now I need to keep ticking over with no game at the weekend. I’ll definitely be working hard in the gym.”

Pompey boss Kenny Jackett believes that Green can have a big impact at the club.

He told the Portsmouth news, “For him, hopefully he can put the niggles and injury problems behind him and make a big impression at Portsmouth. I am sure he is determined to do that.

“Considering the way we play with wingers, wingers that can go one-v-one and beat people, Andre has that power in abundance and his pace can frighten people. That’s the reason we brought him here.

“We want to give him the service, which first and foremost any forward player needs. If we can give him regular service in their half with either balls into feet or into space, he can handle both.

“In terms of opposition defences in League One, we feel he can go past people, give them problems and create and score goals for us. That was the idea when we brought him in.

“Andre’s a very good guy, he’s had no problems fitting in and the players have been pleased to see him back.”
