Matiang’i is king! Operators now vow to support gvt

Is this the end of the much hyped strike by Matatu Operators?

From the sign of things, this will end sooner than projected after the Federation of Public Transport Operators paid the Interior Ministry a visit on Monday afternoon.

The meeting was confirmed the Interior PS Karanja Kibicho who stated that the two parties had come to an agreement with the former agreeing to support government efforts to ensure sanity on the roads.

“I met with leaders of the Federation of Public Transport Operators regarding the ongoing crackdown to improve road safety. I assured them that we’re focusing not just on matatus but the whole public transport sector. They agreed to support the Government in this endeavor.” said the Interior CS in a statement.

“We are glad to have had this meeting and have listened to what we have discussed. I apologize to our passengers and we will be back on the road,”  the federation spokesperson Edwin Mukabana was quoted as saying by Citizen.

“We request our people who have complied to return their vehicles to the road. We will bring all issues to the government table for negotiations.”

The government has also admitted that there has been some luxity in dealing with part of public sector especially after the influx of proboxes into the industry.

“We have also heard of cartels in the sector and are committed in the next couple of days to clean the stages of these cartels,” said Kibicho.

“The federation has also brought to our attention the unfair transportation, such as proboxes, not subjected to these rules. We will enforce the ban against legitimate sector players.”

Are we likely to see the end of this strike?
