It is just hard to understand how our courts work. A high school teacher is arrested for defiling a KCSE candidate but the courts release him on bail! Can you imagine the psychological effects this would have on the victim?
It beats logic how The principal of Habaswein Mixed Secondary School Idle Abdi was released on bail after being charged with raping his student on the eve of the national exams.
Mr Abdi was arraigned before Senior Resident Magistrate Amos Makoros at Wajir Law Courts where he denied the charge and was freed on Sh300,000 bond.
Amongst all the problems a person is supposed to deal with in this cruel world, sexual assault is probably the worst.
The trauma of being raped or can be shattering, leaving you feeling scared, ashamed, and alone or plagued by nightmares, flashbacks, and other unpleasant memories. Now imagine this girl was raped by a man who should be protecting her. Her worse can that be?
According to Stephen Ng’etich, the Wajir County Police Commander, the incident occurred on Saturday when the suspect allegedly offered the female student a lift at around 3:30pm in Habaswein town.
The principal was arrested on Sunday after a medical report of the victim showed there was penetration.
The alleged victim, 18, claimed she lost consciousness after she accepted the lift and two hours later found herself dumped near a bore hole within the township.The girl told police she was on her way to visit her mother when the incident occurred.
It does not make any sense for the teacher to be released on bail especially when his victim is sitting for a crucial exam that would define her future.
Sitting for the exams just after such an ordeal is a tall order in itself, but having to see the person who did that to you walking around in the streets can be totally heartbreaking.
What did the court do to guarantee the student’s security. In my opinion, a rapist is an animal capable of doing anything.
