Ruto Lands in Raila’s Backyard with Goodies

Deputy President William Ruto has taken the war to Raila Odinga’s Homa Bay Backyard. The DP has pitched camp in Homa Bay County, and he is not alone, he has come with goodies for locals.

Ruto started his tour of Nyanza, with a visit to Rusinga Island in Homa Bay County. As usual, the Deputy President announced plans to give Tom Mboya Level IV hospital a sh 20 million face lift. The money will also be used to buy an ambulance for the hospital.

“The equipping of hospitals and expansion of facilities is meant to improve access to health services to communities, cut travel cost and huge bills to access medicare. Keeping the population healthy will ensure a productive workforce.” The DP said through a statement on his Twitter Handle.

The climax of the DP’s visit is set to be when he lands in Migori County, the home of embattled governor Okoth Obado. It has been confirmed that Obado is set to host him.

Even though Ruto’s visit has been termed as purely for development, some analysts have questioned his timing, especially in Migori.

Obado has been shunned by his ODM party and recently spend 34 days in prison after he was arrested and charged with the murder of his girlfriend Sharon Otieno and their unborn son.

Currently out on bail, the governor does not see eye to eye with the ODM leadership in the county especially after their decision to award his nemesis Ochillo Ayacko a direct ticket in last month’s Senatorial by elections.

Ayacko went ahead to win the elections beating Eddy Oketch who was branded as a Ruto candidate and whom Obado had vowed to support before being locked up at Industrial Area Remand Prison.

According to some quarters, Ruto is therefore trying to make inroads in Raila’s ODM strongholds and whom better to use than Obado, who is a political heavyweight in his own capacity.

After all Ruto like Obado were both kicked out from the ODM party. And that could be the main point they would try to use in the rallies on Monday.
