If the Country ever thinks of introducing an award to reward charitable Kenyans, the first person expected to receive such an award would be Nairobi governor Mike Sonko.
Sonko has always been there for people, not only the people from Nairobi but Kenyans at large.
His efforts again bore fruits yesterday as Kenyan Roller skaters emerged overall winners in the just concluded Africa Roller Skating Championships in Cairo, Egypt.
Sonko catered for the team’s allowances after Kenya Federation of Roller-Skating (KFRS) failed to secure funding from the Ministry of Sports to facilitate their participation in the second African Inline Speed Skating Championships.
Despite the frequent visits to the sports ministry, the team saw no help come their way.
“I’m happy to see Kenya emerged overall winners in the just concluded Africa Roller Skating Championships in Cairo, Egypt. I catered for the team’s allowances because I was impressed by their performance in the tournament despite the many challenges they faced,” said Sonko

Sonko Last week won the hearts of many Kenyans when she offered to airlift ailing former female pugilist Conjestina Achieng from her rural home in Siaya to Nairobi for treatment.
Sonko promised that he will ensure Conjestina is fully treated and rehabilitated. He also promised that after her treatment, he will assist her to get a stable job.
Earlier this year, the governor nominated former Harambee Stars players Musa Otieno and Dennis Oliech to spearhead sports development in the city by appointing them to be part of the Nairobi County Sports Board.
Mike Sonko also rewarded the Harambee Stars with Ksh3 million cash following their win over Ethiopia at the Kasarani Stadium during and Africa Cup of Nations qualifier match.
The Nairobi Governor had pledged the reward to the players if they pulled a win against the Waliyas in the Afcon 2019 qualifiers Group F return match.
And true to his word, he followed them into the dressing room to hand them the cash after emerging 3-0 winners.
