Shock as stolen SGR construction materials are recovered at a politician’s home

Have Kenyan politicians turned into thieves? From looting tax payers’ money, they have now started stealing government projects! Will a common mwananchi ever get a change to benefit from these ‘rogue’ politicians’ leadership?

On Sunday Kenyans woke up in shock following the report that had been given by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Part of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) construction materials that had been stolen from the Nairobi SGR yard were recovered at the home Mr Martin Matu, a Naromoru ward Member of County Assembly (MCA).

DCI Kenya reported via its twitter account that the stolen materials recovered are worth over one million shillings.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations reported this, identifying the materials as several rolls of Geogrid.

“The MCA has been instructed to report to DCI Railways on Monday,” it said.

In May 2017,  President Uhuru Kenyatta vowed to protect the SGR by all means — including authorising the execution of vandals.

While launching the passenger train on the Sh327 billion railway in Mombasa County, Mr Kenyatta noted that he has powers to authorise implementation of the death penalty.

He said the project should be continued by successive governments because it is a vision for the people of Kenya.

“It is not mine,” said the Head of State. “It doesn’t belong to (Deputy President) William (Ruto). It is for all Kenyans.”

“Na ule atapatikana akiharibu railway anyongwe (Anyone who will be found vandalising the railway should be hanged),” noted the head of state in a comment during the launch of the madaraka express, an SGR transport line from Mombasa to Nairobi.

From the rate at which the materials are disappearing during this second phase construction, do you agree with the President’s recommendation on the execution of Vandals?
